I know that in the beginning of this I said that you need to own everything.
However, the biggest problem that a lot of girls face is that they have no experience. When I started, I didn’t even like snapshots, much less know how to pose when it came to posed shots. And when you include nudity, your own insecurities about your body, and another person’s naked body into the equation…you can see how nervewracking it might get.
So you’re going to have to get SOME work that is not your own, if only as a training exercise. Learn how a camera works, learn about angles. Learn what side you look better from, what lighting you look best in, and learn how to position your body so that it looks best. What colors look best on you? Makeup? Hair? You can learn all of these things while shooting with a few different people.
I can’t tell you what will work for you. Everyone’s skin tone is different. Everyone’s body type is different. So try a few different makeup artists. Work for a couple of different photographers. See if you can do your shoots as trade shoots, so that you get a copy of the scene for your use. I’ll cover how later.
Larger production companies will probably not give you a copy of the scene for your use. But if you’re professional, polite, and friendly, more than likely you can get the photographer to shoot a few stills for you to take with you. Worst case scenario, you can bring your own camera to set and see if the makeup artist can take some stills for you with it. That way you have reference materials that you can look at later to see what works and what doesn’t work for you.
