Starting An Adult Paysite? Step 1

computer money 300x215 Starting An Adult Paysite? Step 1If you’ve been an adult model long enough, and have an entrepreneurial spirit, you no doubt have considered becoming an adult paysite webmaster. After all, you know that you’re not going to look like you do right now forever, regardless of any amount of plastic surgery. If you want to stay in the adult entertainment game, you’ve got to learn how setting up your own site (or any adult paysite for that matter) works.

Or, you’re just a guy who is thinking about starting their own online adult empire – but have no idea how to get started. You’ve heard that online porn is where the money’s at, and you want a piece of that action, so to speak.

Before you get started, let me start by saying that starting up an adult paysite is WORK. It’s not a matter of setting up a site and then sitting back and watching the money roll in. It’s going to take up your whole day, possibly taking over any time you thought you had for yourself. You may have to consider making this a full-time career. Which might be good, if you’ve been recently laid off or downsized, or looking for a new line of business. You have this time – might as well put it to good use.

Having an adult paysite also means that you have to deal with multiple clients, otherwise known as “members”. They’re going to be demanding updates, having technical issues, and asking questions. You have to develop a thick skin when they have opinions about your site – from the design, to the content, to the speed of downloads and videos, to the choice of models. If you have the cajones to be constantly criticized, and have the time and money to invest in this, then you might have what it takes to be a successful adult paysite webmaster.

Now, don’t confuse this with affiliate site marketing. That’s a whole ‘nother topic altogether, which I’ll get to eventually. I discussed affiliate marketing as a whole in the past, but not the nuts and bolts of how. That’s coming in due time.

OK – so you’ve decided to start your site. This is not an overnight project – so I’m going to dedicate a little more than a single post to walk you through the steps involved. You’re going to have to handle the site itself, the design of the site, the content, the paperwork, the accounting, any promotional materials, and the payment processing.

Let’s start from the beginning : The Site
What kind of paysite do you want to create? If you have a specific niche you want to market, then good. You’re one step ahead already. If not, then perhaps by visiting some tube sites such as RedTube or YouPorn might be a good idea — you’ll get some ideas of what’s popular right now by looking at what clips are being viewed more than the others.

One you have decided on what you want to market, you need to start buying up domain names. We’re not talking about one domain name, by the way: you should consider buying not only the .com but the .net as well (and perhaps .tv, and .mobi if you’re thinking about providing content for cellphones).

Also buy up alternate versions of the domain name you’ve picked – if, say for instance, the site’s name is Kelly, you should consider Kelli, Kellee, Kellye, and Kelley. If the site’s name is AdultWebmasters, then consider WebmasterAdults, XXXWebmasters, or PornWebmasters. You get the idea. The point is to make sure that you have that corner of the market covered so you don’t have to compete with a similar-sounding website name later. Trust me, it’s worth the extra $10 a domain to do so.

GoDaddy.com is actually a great resource for this, since they make suggestions as part of the registration process. Plus they have domain name sales from time to time – right now I think it’s something like $7.49. In fact, if you click on this, it’ll take you straight to them:

Great to see the site back up and the next segment of starting your own paysite up. Good advice on buying up alternatives of your name. I didn’t think my site was big enought that anyone would think to buy up the alternative tld so I just got the .com and the .net. I’ve recently found out though that someone bought the .mobi! Now I’m paranoid about what they think they are going to do with it!!!
