Content management is essential to running your new site, especially if you have a bulk of scenes already. Having a good Content Management System negates the need for you to have to stay on a set physical schedule for uploading scenes for your site updates, since the CMS (Content Management System) can handle that in advance for you. This way, you can go ahead and upload a bunch of scenes at a time, and just program the CMS to update your site for you on a regular basis. This makes things so much easier and will allow you the time to coordinate things like out-of-town shoots and vacations (remember those?).
For those of you new to the whole programming game, CMS makes things even easier, since it requires no comprehensive knowledge of HTML to operate. You can set up manage several sites at once, upload the scenes/photo sets into the CMS, tell it when you want the update to go up, and … that’s basically it. Adding and deleting entire pages on your site will be easier as well. Trust me, you want a CMS for your site if you want to be efficient.
Much like payment processors, there are several CMS companies that you can use that are set up specifically for adult paysites:
Carma
PornCMS
PaysiteCMS
ElevatedX
HostICan
aWizSoft
If you’re more advanced in the programming department, you can either use a CMS template or try to create one yourself, or hire a programmer to create one for your site. Sites like WebsiteTemplates, CushyCMS and SurrealCMS have scripts and templates available if you choose not to go the pay-for-use method. If you’re new, or don’t want to bother with programming one yourself, I would definitely opt for the pay-for-use method from the companies listed above.
Password protection is another important element to running a successful paysite. Much like tube sites posting downloaded content, there are password trading forums out there (since everyone is always looking for what they can get for free). The minute one of your passwords is listed on one of those forums, you’ll have thousands of people not only looking at your site and its contents for free, but you’ll also be incurring additional costs for the extra bandwidth your site is using. Bad news on all fronts.
Most adult sites use StrongBox. There are other sites like NeedSecure, ElfGate and LockedArea are also available, but just about everyone I know uses StrongBox.
Just like everything else (and I’ve mentioned this on the other steps as well), please do your due diligence and research. Don’t just go with the cheapest of free options out there. People can hack, steal, and then sell your passwords – why do that to yourself? That’s hundreds and thousands of potential dollars that you are losing.
Good luck – I’ll have other “series” posts in the future in regards to production – lighting, camera, set design, wardrobe, editing…the list goes on. Have a great Easter, everyone!
