I agree with you about the "no hill" explination, but theres alot more to advertising nowadays to just kicking dirt on someone else's product/service/ect.

"I often see versions of this game played in social situations as well as in corporate structures. In social circles, people can often try to discredit others in the hopes that they will become popular. We also see this in modern advertising, where one company claims to make a better product, a less expensive product, a safer product, etc."

This comment is completely contradictory to the point of even buying anything. If you dont belive that you like a Subaru over a Honda for safety reasons, everything would be a monotnus mess. If you dont have the funds to get something you WANT, wouldnt you pray that it was cheaper?

I do agree however to the social groups of the target market a.k.a teenagers, kids, adults, ethnicities, ect. Advertisements like that just give people the notion that only people of that specific style should get this specific product. Poeple goto Hot Topic to dodge the fact that everyone goes to Holister, and Abercrombie & Fitch.

Whatever the case, we can't dodge the fact that we're catagorized into groups that marketing wants us to buy and spend money on. So just sit back relax and enjoy the compitetion. :P

Lovely way of wording it. One justification I hear often is "we are human beings. Just like any other species of creature on the planet, competition is part of ours too." I never know what to say. They have a point but I still wonder if it still doesn;t mean we have to accept it. Most people tell me that to question its existence means I don't live realistically.

I too miss the old days of "how can we make our product the best?" and not "how can we defame this other company so ours looks good." Shouldnt both options take the same amount of effort/energy? The latter is the more malicious one.
